As you all know, I am completely addicted to flower/bird hair accessories. Check these out! I found them on Etsy and I was thinking Georgia Peach might be able to help me figure out how the heck they are made. Love them...
Oh Goodness, those are cute! I think how they are made is by taking satin or another fabric very similar to it turned over onto the matte side and then they are probably doing one of two things:
a) burning one edge of a ribbon then wrapping it around to form the flower shape b) cutting satin down to a little larger than wanted size and using burning the edges
When satin burns (well, not really burns but gets close to heat) it gets dark and the edges curl up like those flowers do. I would guess that they cut them down to size and then just layered the flowers but you could try both. The very middle layer on the big one looks like a cheap cotton pulled apart or gauze burn on the edges too. You might even try a tulle type fabric but I am not sure how they burn, I just know that when satin burns it looks just like that. Those are super cute though, good luck!
I think I am going to try and make one of these this week. If it works out well, I'll send it to you! I am fascinated by them for some reason. Do you think the bobby pins are normal sized or oversized? They look quite large, if they arn't then the flowers are quite small, which might be quite cute. Hmmm....I'll keep you posted.
I started one last night with tulle/ribbon and lace that my mom had laying around and the edges burned really well. I'll post a picture when I'm done (if it doesn't look too bad lol).
Check out the rest...I love this site! And she does custom ones for bridesmaids and what not http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=6915786
